Door Handle Detection for the Stanford AI Robot (STAIR)
نویسندگان
چکیده
We adapted a visual object detection framework, originally applied to face recognition, to perform fast and robust door handle detection. We detect objects in real time using a cascade of weak classifiers. The framework rejects most image subwindows early on in the cascade and a very small minority ever reaches the later nodes. Our system achieves a high detection rate (approximately 95%) while maintaining a very low number of false positives, even though door handles are intrinsically less feature-rich than faces.

Absolute Range Detection System for STAIR
Absolute range detection has been a long-time objective of studies focused on achieving stereo computer vision. Many researchers have attempted to emulate some part of the human stereo system, most commonly motion parallax. These attempts, however, have concluded that motion parallax is not a reliable source of input for systems attempting range measurements and, in fact, often worsens object s...

The STanford Artificial Intelligence Robot (STAIR) project is a long-term group effort aimed at producing a viable home and office assistant robot. As a small concrete step towards this goal, we showed a demonstration video at the 2007 AAAI Mobile Robot Exhibition of the STAIR 1 robot responding to a verbal command to fetch an item. Carrying out this task involved the integration of multiple co...
متن کاملHave we met? MDP based speaker ID for robot dialogue
We present a novel approach to speaker identification in robot dialogue that allows a robot to recognize people during natural conversation and address them by name. Our STanford AI Robot (STAIR) dialogue system attempts to mirror the human speaker identification process. We model the robot dialogue problem as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) and apply a reinforcement learning algorithm to try t...
متن کاملA Situated, Embodied Spoken Language System for Household Robotics
We present an embodied, situated natural language user in the form of a spoken dialog system on the STanford AI Robot (STAIR). Combining a limited vocabulary HMM-based speech recognizer with sliding window object detection from monocular vision and and robotic manipulation with a five degree-offreedom arm, we demonstrate the feasability of a mobile robot able to find (perceive) and manipulate c...
